Hardness Testing

A hardness test is a method of NDT and is used to look for quality control and/or failure analysis. Hardness testing methods can determine the hardness of metals that can provide valuable, non-destructive information about the metal’s strength properties.

This process can help with:

• Verifying the conformance to a specific contract, code or specification.
• Verification of complete and correct heat treatment.
• The determination of structural integrity and material properties.
• Measurement of any hardness differences or consistency.

The hardness testing of metals is often required by specifications to help confirm and evaluate properties such as yield and tensile strength, as well as abrasive resistance, brittleness and ductility.

There are three main types of testing to measure hardness that Format NDT can offer:

• Rockwell Hardness Testing (RH)
• Brinell Hardness Testing (BH)
• Vickers Hardness Testing (VH)
