Dye Penetrant Inspection

Dye penetrant inspection otherwise known as liquid penetrant testing is an NDT method in which a penetrant liquid is applied to the surface of the material under inspection, the liquid seeps in to any surface flaws by capillary action. This method of inspection reveals all types of surface defects for example:

  • Location
  • Cracks
  • Laps
  • Porosity
  • Laminations
  • Shrinkage

Penetrant inspection is an excellent method for detection of minute surface discontinuities that can affect either the functionality or final appearance of raw material or manufactured component. When the flaw sensitivity needs maximum attention, our qualified team of inspectors may do a fluorescent penetrant inspection, where solution used contains a dye that will light up under ultraviolet light, such as UV-A.

This well-established non-destructive test method is used by Format NDT as part of the full range of services provided to a wide range of customers. To complement this technology, we also offer for surface defects Magnetic Particle Inspections and Visual Inspections, and for Internal defects Radiography, Ultrasonic and Eddy Current inspection.
