Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)

Magnetic particle inspection is used for locating surface and near to surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic material.

Leakage is detected by use of fine ferromagnetic particles applied over the surface. The magnetically charged particles form an outline of the discontinuity and indicate:-

• Location
• Size
• Shape

Magnetic Particle Inspection is an excellent method of detecting discontinuities in raw materials or finished product (prior to final inspection).

Format QA Consultants have a fully equipped laboratory operated by a qualified team of inspectors in this discipline. To complement this method of NDT we can also provide our customers with Liquid Penetrant and Visual Inspection for surface defects on non-ferromagnetic materials, and for internal defects, Radiographic Ultrasonic and Eddy Current Inspections.
